Juno Wela is a Zurich-based multidisciplinary artist, whose practice examines the relationship between art and body. Wela (b. 1999) works across performance, text, installation and dialogue, investigating how lived experience dictates states of health and creativity.
Born near Zurich and spending her adolescence in Brussels, she studied in Zurich and Berlin, graduating with a Masters Degree in Global Art History. In her studies, she became deeply influenced by feminist performance art from the '70s, such as that of Ana Mendieta or Rebecca Horn. In response, Wela started exploring the body both as a medium and canvas in the series titled “Reclaiming the body as a creative act”. This ongoing performance started in Zurich and is rooted in tattoo culture, queerness and identity politics. While it continued in Berlin, Brussels, and Paris, it has since led to the publication of the book “Through the Body” (published 2026 in Zurich.)
Alongside her academic path, Wela became involved in art therapy, which led her to develop exhibitions for psychiatric institutions in Zurich, St. Gallen and Basel. With the perspective on art as both a means of expression and a tool for health, she often hosts panel discussions about embodied art practices.
